Ear Micro Suctioning (Ear Toileting) Services in Kenmore

Looking for ear cleaning treatments in Kenmore or Brisbane?

Ear Micro Suctioning is a gentle, dry, and effective method used to remove ear wax, debris, dead skin, and discharge from the ear canal. This procedure can help relieve symptoms such as blocked ears, fullness, reduced hearing, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), discomfort, and recurrent infections.

Unlike traditional ear syringing, microsuction is performed under direct visual guidance using specialised equipment and is considered one of the safest and most precise techniques for ear wax removal. Because no water is used, microsuction is often preferred for patients with sensitive ears, recurrent infections, perforated ear drums, hearing aids, previous ear surgery, or narrow ear canals.

Why Ear Microsuctioning may be needed?

Several ear conditions commonly require specialised ear toileting and microsuctioning, including:

  • Impacted hard wax lodged deep within the ear canal, which may require fine instrumentation to safely remove
  • Dead skin build-up that adheres to the canal wall and cannot be cleared with syringing
  • Keratosis obturans, where hard masses of dead skin form within the ear canal and require specialised cleaning techniques
  • Narrow, curved, or obstructed ear canals, including canals affected by exostoses (bony growths commonly associated with water sports)
  • Residual oily ear drops or olive oil, which can create blockage against the ear drum and are difficult to clear without microsuction
  • Wax or skin adhered to the ear drum, requiring careful microscopic visualisation and removal
  • Wax impaction caused by cotton buds/Q-tips, which often push wax deeper into the ear canal
  • Hearing aid-related blockage, where hearing aid moulds contribute to wax build-up or obstruction
  • Foreign bodies in the ear, particularly in children, which may become lodged deep within the canal and require specialised removal techniques

What to expect during your Appointment?

Your clinician will carefully examine the ear canal using specialised magnification and lighting equipment. Wax, debris, skin, or discharge is then gently removed using low-pressure suction and fine micro-instruments where required. The procedure is usually quick and well tolerated by most patients.
